So while this may help you get through your batch of bad disks, I think bad disks are the ones to take the blame here. I find that this error also occurs when a file can't be read because the physical media is damaged. Nobody seems to have noticed yet which is odd. I have tired to create the toast file with disk auto open window option, but it is the same story, toast file is not editable, so I cannot drag and drop files after mounted. It uploads about 2/3 of the disc and then the error message shows up.

But why would VLC refuse to play it? Your disk image of AirServer is probably corrupt and may need to be downloaded again, your best bet would be to contact the creator of AirServer and ask them for support about their product. If this had not worked, I would next plug the drive into a Windows platform and perform chkdsk /f on the corresponding drive letter. Switched back to AFP and worked like a charm. When I use disk utilities with restore the blank disc does not show up so I can select it as the destination.
